What you need before you start
01 · Claude Code
The local CLI. Installed in step 1 if you do not have it yet.
02 · Anthropic API key
From platform.claude.com/settings/keys — starts with sk-ant-...
03 · Python 3.13+ (or Node)
The setup script Claude Code writes runs on stable Python. Node SDK also works.
04 · Managed Agents beta access
On by default for most accounts. Advanced features (multi-agent, memory) need a request.

Get your API key + install the SDK
Create a key at platform.claude.com/settings/keys, export it in your shell, then install the Anthropic SDK. Managed Agents is in beta — the SDK sets the beta header for you automatically.
