Zapier MCP
Zapier MCP connects your AI assistant to Zapier apps for automated workflows. Easily create, configure, and control tools via natural language commands.
How to Install and Use Zapier MCP
Zapier MCP lets you connect your AI assistant to many apps through Zapier. This guide will show you how to set up Zapier MCP and run your first tool call. We’ll use simple steps and examples to help you get started easily.
Step 1: Create Your MCP Server
To start, you need to create an MCP server in Zapier. This server will connect your AI client to Zapier.
Here’s how:
- Go to mcp.zapier.com.
- Click "+ New MCP Server".
- Choose your AI client from the dropdown list (for example, "Claude").
- Give your server a name, like "My MCP Assistant".
- Click "Create MCP Server".
After this, you’ll see the configuration page for your new server. This is where you add tools and connect your apps.
Step 2: Add Tools to Your Server
Next, you add the Zapier actions that your AI can use. These actions let your AI interact with apps like Slack or Google Sheets.
Follow these steps:
- Click "+ Add tool".
- Type the name of an app you want to connect, for example, "Slack" or "Google Sheets".
- Pick an action from the list, such as “Send Channel Message” or “Create Spreadsheet Row”.
- Connect your app account if it asks you to.
- Fill in any required fields for the action.
- You can also let the AI suggest values for some fields.
- Click "Save" to add the tool.
Repeat this to add more tools your AI can use.
Step 3: Connect Your AI Client
Now link your AI client to your MCP server. Click the Connect button for instructions tailored to your chosen client. Each AI client has its own connection way, but you can also pick “Other” if your client is not listed.
Step 4: Test Your Connection
It’s important to check that everything works before you start automating.
Try this:
- Ask your AI:
"What tools do I have available?" - Your AI should reply with the list of Zapier actions you added.
- Test a simple command, for example:
"Send a test message to #general in Slack"
(Make sure you added the Slack “Send Channel Message” tool.)
Step 5: Start Automating with Natural Language
Once connected and tested, you can use normal sentences to control your apps through your AI. Here are some examples you can try:
Add a row to my sales spreadsheet with today’s numbers
Create a task in Asana for the marketing team
Search for recent emails from John
Post a message to Discord announcing the meeting
Example of an Action Chaining Command
Zapier MCP can do multiple actions in a row. For example:
Find all emails from clients today, summarize them, and create tasks for any that need follow-up
This way, your AI can handle complex workflows by chaining actions together.
With these easy steps, you can install and use Zapier MCP to connect your AI assistant to many apps and start automating tasks fast. Just create your server, add tools, connect your client, test it, and then give commands in natural language!
